Check out what happened when you look for online dating…
One of my friends, Carlos, always like to look for girls through internet dating, one day he went online and found a website named match.com. He searched this site for any and all cute girls in the Boston area, in hopes that he would find someone to date. One day he found a beautiful girl name Sandra and was very happy when she wrote back to him; responding to his message. He was so happy that he asked Sandra out on a first date which she accepted.
I spoke to Carlos December 16th about his dating experience, several weeks after he had met Sandra. At this time I wrote down the aforementioned story and asked them to meet me again on Wednesday the 31st of January so I could see how things have been going. They both agreed to this date and in the mean time I went to match.com myself and registered.
Now, I would like to stress that I did this only out of scientific curiosity but who knows, maybe there’s something to it. The process is relatively simple. You register, pay a small fee and take a personality test. Then the site matches you with people it believes will get along with you based on your responses to the questions on the personality test. You are then shown the pictures of those people and are able to search through the photos and e-mail them through match.com. This is good because until you are comfortable with someone they do not have access to any of your personal information.
My search didn’t take to long, I e-mailed around fifty girls and received half as many e-mails in response. From this group I went on about five dates. The first four were horrible. I had almost given up on the system. Some girls didn’t look anything like their profile picture and others had no personality and one wasn’t actually a girl. So the first four dates are a good example of what negative things may happen when you can actually see the person with whom you are speaking.
My last date went very well. She was cute, friendly and smart. At the end of this experience I would say that internet dating can be good if you are careful and use the internet as a tool to meet people. If you attempt to have an actual relationship on the internet before meeting someone you never know what is going to happen.
Now let’s go back to Carlos and Sandra. Yesterday I met first with Carlos and then spoke with Sandra on the phone. For the first couple weeks things were going fine. But eventually they broke up. It turns out that Sandra was dating a bartender at Mojitos when they meet and only Carlos found this out one night when he was ordering his drink at Mojitos from her boyfriend. So in this case internet dating did not work. I spoke to Sandra and she told me that this had nothing to do with match.com and that this would have happened if they had met on the street. So in conclusion I think that internet dating is no better or worse than meeting someone the old fashioned way. You can have the same success (like me) or have your heart broken.
How do I handle conflicts?
Well, I try to be very careful on the situation that is going on, I’m not a person that likes to get into conflicts, but if things get out of hand and your looking for trouble you’re going to find it. I’m not the type of person that backs down from a fight. I’ve been in different conflicts in life; I’ve backed down from some, but I know I can handle them. So what I can say is that conflict is not issue for me I get through them verbally.
