My Mom and I :)

for as long as i can remember, it has always been my mom and i. she was the one who read me bed time stories, the one who helped me make cupcakes for valentine's day in elementary school, the one who rubbed my back and reassured me that everything would be okay when my first love broke up with me in high school, the one who rubbed my back and reassured me that everything would be okay once again when he broke up with me a second and third time (punkass!)..she was also the one who spent countless nights sitting up with me while i wondered why daddy wasn't home yet, and most importantly the one that, no matter what obstacle was thrown at her, made sure that her daughter never felt a single ounce of pain.

you see..growing up, my mother did what she could to hide the reality of a certain situation from me: my father had been cheating on her - for 7 years she dealt with it and stayed with him so that her little girl could live happily and without the heartache that comes when a child's parents divorce. as i got older it was hard to ignore the distance that grew between them and the constant arguing i would hear from my bedroom down the hall. needless to say, my senior year of high school they split and i've lived with my mom ever since.

my relationship with my mom is extremely close, and without her i could not have become even remotely similar to the young woman i have grown to be. she is my best friend and acts even more as an older sister to me then a mother. she always has my back, isn’t afraid to admit that i’m not perfect, and accepts all the good along with the bad that makes me who i am.

you would automatically assume that my relationship with my dad is non existent. nope, not the case. despite his obvious faults, i’m still daddy’s little girl. part of what makes my mom an extraordinary woman is the fact that she never raised me to hate my father. instead, she encouraged me to remain close to him and made sure i knew that he loved me more than anything in this world. because of this, i am able to joke and laugh at the occasional dinners with dad, and realize that people make mistakes and no one is perfect. i love my dad regardless and thats all that matters..

my mom is happy now, spoiled by her new boyfriend – who couldn’t be more perfect. he’s a great guy with a big heart and would do absolutely anything for anyone. i guess you would label him my ‘step dad.’ i have a great relationship with him as well, and honestly couldn’t pick a better person to have as part of our family. he embodies a lot of the traits i like to think i have: putting others before himself, respectful, and always making sure people feel comfortable. he’s a little crazy at times, but i love him for that.

so i guess that’s it in the quickest way it could be said…and for the record i have no siblings which makes a select handful of friends the ‘family i got to choose’..- but that’s a whole other blog!!!
