When MTV casting directors originally called me and asked me to be part of what they then told me was an "exclusive" casting process, I was a little leery at first. I mean, they somehow managed to find a away for the ugliness and fakeness that accompany the inner pages of anyone's high school yearbook to hemorrhage directly from the groin of myspace. We all knew people would be fake, campaign for themselves, and essentially sell out in order to be 'liked' by strangers across the country via the least personal means... the internet. This is something I didn't want to stand for. People generally like me and any time that I've had to convince someone that they liked me or prove that I was cool and deserving of their attention, it hasn't been worth it. There's more to life and I'm too good for that.
However, after the sixth or seventh call from two different casting directors, I started to change my mind. I mean, hey, MTV casting directors kept calling me trying to convince me to give them the green light to cast me for what has to be one of the greatest experiences a young twenty-something could ever want. Who wouldn't think say yes to something like that? Soo, I caved.
After shooting a quick email to friends and family with a short explanation and a not so subtle plea for their vote, I thought I was set. But then someone cheated and ended up with 1000 votes in the first hour. Then a few more people cheated. Soon enough, I realized that everyone was cheating and that this site wasn't worth the time or effort. I refused to beg for votes and fight to be acknowledged. Seems that the person who spends the most time online in their mom's basement sending comments and empty promises to strangers on this site will end up the winner. Sounds like a real winner to me :). Eh, whatever works though.. more power to them. Eventually, I would hope that they would get a job, go out, have a good time, and do something with their life. The Real World should want YOU more than you want the Real World. I just hope casting directors realize this.
So... no campaigning for me. I plan to wait and let the votes come to me. It may or may not be a winning approach, but I know that I haven't sold out to who I am and that should say something.
